Well if she hasn't been struck off yet, then the NMC must think she acted appropriately within the rules, standards and codes of conduct!! An incident like this wouldn't be dragged out otherwise. As long as you have contemporaneous record keeping and basically cover yourself in all aspects of the care you provide-even if it is limited, you state that and thats all you can do, its just the nature of the society we live in I suppose, but good care, evidence and record keeping will start to win through.
Thats half the problem with our court cases is that the records are so poor the trust don't have a leg to stand on!!!
But yes Nici, it is scary, I've had to fill in IR 1 forms on numerous occasions about incidence and near misses, staff shortages with the other midwives, but hopefully government will see sense and fund the trusts better to make sure incidents like this are avoided!!
