We had a hypnobirthing study day at the unit I work at, following one of our very well respected and more experienced midwives looking after a labouring primip.

When the young woman came in, the midwife found it difficult to gain any idea of where she was in her labour - or even if she was in established labor, by watching for her behavioural cues as we normally would. She decided to just watch and wait, dimmed the lights, had a listen in to the FH from time to time, and was still scratching her head. Then the woman looked at the midwife, told her that it was time to push now, got down on the floormats, and had a baby about half an hour later. The midwife was amazed - it was only after she discovered that the woman had been using natal hypnotherapy CDs through her pregnancy
