I had a brilliant day on community today, my mentor is lovely. She explained everything so that I understood it and felt involved in what she was doing.
We went on post natal home visits this morning, all the ladies were quite happy to have me there, and I didn't feel like a spare part once
This afternoon we were in clinic seeing ante natal ladies, I practised blood pressures after my mentor had taken the reading, and I was amazed that I heard them all and could recognise the different sounds too.
My mentor (and the ladies) let me palpate some abdomens, and I was able to feel the difference between how a baby's head and bottom felt (much different than on a dummy in uni) and also the solid back and softer legs and arms at the other side.
I also did a check on a specimen of urine, and got the result correct

.
When we went back to the community office I had to do a handwashing audit, and I passed
My mentor gave me a present this morning too, my own brand new shiny stethoscope, something I hadn't got round to buying for myself, which I thought was a lovely gesture.
All in all I have had such a great first day, and can't wait for tomorrow. Hope everyone else has had as good a day as me.
