This is what I was talking about in my intro post about the midwife who has been practicing for so long and taking care of the Amish and Plain communities. It's awful, the courts are calling her irresponsible and negligent and painting her to be some crazy woman who doesn't know what she's doing. I'm afraid this is going to add fuel to the 'midwife hunt' fire.

History of midwifery in the US is painful since the turn of the century. At one point in time, midwives were all but extinct in this country. It was absolutely illegal. Still, there were some women who felt that the service they provided to poor and underprivileged women was too great and practiced in secret. There is still a lot of that going on in several states.
