Re: Interview Testimonials
I had interviews at Swansea and Bangor but I'll let someone else post the Swansea one!!
2/4/08
Arrive in Wrexham General Station, immediately make a fool out of myself by asking the man at the station if I was in Wrexham... Get a cab to B + B (which was only 5 mins walk away!) and settle in for a loooonnngg night! No hot food allowed in the B+B but the food they offer isn't my cup of tea so decide to go to Tescos, then to chip shop and smuggle some chips back in! Go through personal statement and possible questions, ring mum and watch a night full of soaps on TV! Lovely!
3/4/08
Wake at 6:30am, refreshed and positive! Showered, hair done, dressed and made-up by 7:30am - just in time for breakfast! The breakfast was amazing! Cornflakes followed by toast and then a full cooked breakfast!! (Only ate the half of the cornflakes, half a piece of toast and a rasher of bacon though) Cab arrives at 8:30am and I make my way to the uni (Which was only 10 mins away!!) Hmmm, not feeling so positive anymore!!!
8:45am
Am sitting in a waiting room, waiting (Obviously) when I realise I'm in the wrong place... Duh!! Slight panic as I try and find out where I'm meant to be but, panic over, the building I needed was just around the corner. Get there, make sure I'm in the right place and then go for a sneaky ciggy (Yes, I know I shouldn't but I'm a smoker - they're my lungs!)
9:00ish
Am smoking outside when I see two women walking towards me, they turn out to be sae156 and nuttymum! Lovely ladies! We go inside, sit down and wait - chat about how nervous we are, our journey to the interview and just general chit chat and wait for others to arrive. By 9:15ish we were all there, nervous and ready to go!!
9:30am
Ok, so we all go to the lecture theatre for a little presentation on the uni; introduction to lecturers and midwives who were going to be interviewing us, course structure, bursaries etc... and the nerves really start kicking in! Once that's over we're told to have a quick break and would sit the essay test soon.
11:00ish (I think!)
All separated and given an article to read and reproduce in our own words in 20 mins. Scary!!!
11:30am
Separated into our trust groups and taken to separate rooms for group discussion! This I really enjoyed, we all spoke, asked questions and generally had a great chat. Spoke about this site and our own preparation/personal questions etc...
My interview was scheduled for 3:30pm but when they realised I'd travelled from South Wales they rearranged everyone's interviews by about 15 mins and I got to go first (1:30pm) so that I could catch an earlier train home!
We were then sent for lunch and told to be back in an hour or so
1:00pm
Arrive back and after arguing with the woman on the phone who said I couldn't get an earlier train, I decide just to get on it and hope for the best. All sitting in the room waiting and having a lovely 'get-to-know- each-other" chat when it's time for my interview..... I was so not ready for it!!!
1:30pm
Am all nervous and practically shaking as I walk to the interview room but manage to pull myself together just in time!! Can't remember all the questions but they were something like;
Why do you want to be a midwife?
What is the role of a midwife?
What skills do you have?
Do you have any experience in the health care setting?
Do you have any hands on experience relating to midwifery?
Have you read anything in the news lately relating to midwifery?
How had I prepared for the interview?
What was I doing on my access course relating to midwifery? (I answered and said I'd recently done a post natal depression presentation hence the next question)
What is my opinion on PND?
What do know about birth centres and how do I feel about them?
Where do I feel women should give birth?
Why Bangor?
That was it I think.... They said I'd hear within two weeks!
2:00
Say goodbye and good luck to all the ladies waiting!
2:30
Get to train station, get on first train to shrewsbury and pray that noone comes to check my ticket...
3:00
Cry at the ticket checker who sees my original ticket and let's me off thankfully! (Tears are a great bargaining tool!)
3:30
Arrive at Shrewsbusy, grab a coffee and get on the Swansea train....
5:00
WooHoo!!! Back in Port Talbot...
What an eventful two days!!
