I have started filling out my applications for college to do the access course. I live in scotland so i think we do things different to england ( i think) i live in tayside which covers perth, dundee stirling ect. A couple of the colleges actually interview you for the access and your place at uni about the same time so you don't get on the course if you are not going to get onto the course at uni. Well what a nightmere all they do is say "GO FOR NURSING no jobs for midwifery" it is driving me crazy they have even less spaces i think i was told that one college takes on 1 midwifery student every year the most was 2.Well anyway i phoned up my local college the lady was very nice but straight away when she found out what i wanted to do her tone changed even more so when i told her well somone has to get the place.
Then she harped on and on about nursing, she asked where i work and what qualifications i have, i have none left school ages ago she went silent. I told her that i worked in the hospital she seemed surprised but the icing on the cake the part which i wish i was a fly on the wall was when i also added " oh yes i also do part time work on the maternity wae in our local hospital" it went silent and all she said was oh right well then come and fill out an application and we will have a interview chat to see what from then but before she put the phone down again she said " i will say again at interview that midwifery is a difficult course to get on. rant over it just makes me sad that they try to put you off even at interview stage, even when i spoke to our head of access for our area they said do nursing first then midwifery. If they going to look at this forum just a message I WILL NOT GIVE UP !!!!!!!!
