I remember that when doing my access course, we were told the same, I just stuck to my guns and told them that if I wanted to be a nurse, I would do nursing, but as I have no intention of being a nurse, I would stick to midwifery. I only applied to 2 Unis, and got offers at both.
Of the 4 girls on my access course who thought like me, three of us got places and the 4th didn't get in because of occy health. So as you say, someone has to get those places, why not you!
