We have had this discussion several times in NCT circles.
I am quite sceptical about the "training". I don't think it's very realistic to be saying to women "childbirth is not painful". I think it's good to be able to view that pain in a positive way and to have faith and self-belief that your body is designed to give birth and that you
can and
will do this.

But simply saying "it's not painful" is a lie!

From a discussion just yesterday, I understand that there is a difference between "Hypnobirthing" (- which states that birth is not painful and discourages women and their partners from thinking about pain and considering anything to do with pain relief) and "natal hypnotherapy" (- which talks about the pain being positive, about you staying in control, coping well with each contraction as they come etc...). The latter seems far more realistic and helpful.
