Default IUD delivery

I feel like I am taking over here today, but have been wondering about this question since I started on delivery suite.

When a woman has suffered an IUD, why does she usually have to endure a vaginal delivery of the baby, rather than being offered the choice of an elective section? Is an elective section even offered to her as an option?

I haven't had to deal with this yet, and am just curious to know why this happens.
