my advice would just be to get stuck in- i was so inhibited to begin with but the more you do, the more you experience, and that's what it's all about.
and don't be afraid to ask questions, not just of your mentor, but anyone, if you can't find something or do something just ask anyone, and the majority of them will be happy to help!!
and in my experience, a smile goes a long way, even when you're having a bad day- they're contagious!
