Question coldsores

i just wanted to know if any midwifes have heard or been taught about the coldsore virus being dangerous to newborn babies. i dont only mean the genital herpes but just normal coldsores on the lips (face) its just i have been on facebook tonight and someone sent me a group to join, its about a woman who developed a coldsore days after having her baby, the coldsore only lasted a day and she thought no more of it but when the baby was 8 days old she become lifeless and the doctors had no idea why and the baby died. they found that the baby had the herpes simplex virus 1 which killed her. apparently this is very rare in the uk and only 6 babies a year die from this. obviously there are no syptoms for the babies so its so hard to diagnose but is this something you learn with your training and as many mums get very run down after giving birth and do get cold sores do you get worried for the baby? i know genital herpes is very dangerous for a baby being born but not a common coldsore as im sure ive had a coldsore when my babies were born! and all mums kiss their babys all over the face and lips although you shouldnt but its just naturel. has anyone come across this a midwife?
