Default Re: Apgar scores?

Have you got Mayes or Miles? they have good definitions of what apgars are. In a nutshell they were developed by Dr Virginia Apgar in the 1950s and their purpose is assessing the condition of baby at birth at 1 min, 5 min and 10 min, scoring 0, 1 or 2.

There are 5 criteria each scoring 0, 1 or 2

  • Respiratory effort
  • Heart rate
  • Colour
  • Tone
  • Response to stimuli
The numbers are then added together to give you the 'condition'

7-10 = good condition
4-6 = depressed condition requiring some resuscitation
0-3 = severely depressed, requires immediate rescues and possibly ventilation

This will make you smile...
