Thanks for the great replies everyone.

I am a visual learner, so need to 'see' how things fit together like the bones of the pelvis, so then I can remember what bit goes where in relation to the next part (does that even make sense?)

I do tend to stick post it notes everywhere with 'cues' written on them, but that doesn't tend to be as effective.

I will give all your tips a try and see what works though.
