Default Re: Personal Statement Examples

here is my personal statement only got one interview with it so maybe it needed some fine tuning hahaha hope it useful and not boring lol xx

Midwifery is a profession I am very passionate about and I would thrive on the rewards and pressures that this profession has to offer. Being present at the birth of my nephew in 2004 made me more aware that this was the career for me. I was truly amazed at the professionalism of the midwifes and doctors who took care of my sister in-law, and I know that, with the right training, I would be able to offer at least the same levels of skill and service.

In September 2006 I returned to full-time education and by June 2007 I had completed a pre-Access science course. It proved to be an ideal course for someone who had been away from formal study for 10 years. I was able to demonstrate that I am a well-motivated, well organised and an enthusiastic student. It is now clearer to me what is required of a full time student. Now I am enrolled on an Access HE Science course. Although the schedule is demanding, I feel I am coping well with demands of this strenuous course.

In addition to my studies, I work as a volunteer at the Wirral Resource Centre and Toy Library. The centre is where parents and other family members can take children to play. The families that use the centre have children with special needs or children who were premature babies. At the centre I work with different health professionals, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists and neonatal midwives. Having the opportunity to work with these health professionals has increased my confidence and enabled me to develop my communication skills to a high level.

At first I found my work at the centre quite hard as I had no previous experience of working with children with special needs. However, through working at the centre for some time, I have grown to understand some of the problems facing the parents and their children. More importantly, I now appreciate the potential for growth and development that such children have.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending as much time as possible with my children, going swimming, to the cinema, and on day trips. When not with the children I like to meet friends and go out for a meal or drinks. I love being able to unwind with friends. I also find time to attend keep fit classes at my local gym. A few years ago I was over weight and unfit. Since taking action I have lost four stone and enjoy good health. The lessons learnt during this process have greatly influenced my attitude towards my children's health.

In the last few years, I have dedicated myself to bringing up my two children, now aged 8 and 4. In the past, I have done bar work, which enabled me to meet people with completely different backgrounds and lifestyles. Bar work really helped me develop people skills. I know how to develop a rapport with people from a wide range of backgrounds and I have developed the skills required for coping with difficult customers in a sympathetic, patient and tactful manner.

If I am to be offered a place to study midwifery then I know that I would be sure to make the most of what the course has to offer. Midwifery is the career choice that has inspired me to embark upon this lengthy but rewarding program of study and training. I hope to be able to see it through and eventually become an outstanding midwife.
