Talking I've just had my first witness, which was a homebirth.

I thought I would share with you all.

I got called out last night to a homebirth. It was the first one I've been to and I was very excited. I've never witnessed a birth before, at all.

I got to the womans house at 9.15pm. This was her 3rd baby, but her first home birth. She was doing really well when I got there. She had gas and air and was having 4in10 contractions. At 10.15 she put on her 'wedding album'. Its was a few songs she had played at her wedding 9 months ago, yup, this was a hunnymoon baby At 10.47pm her beautiful baby boy made his grand entrance. He was born to the final song on her CD which was Reo Speedwagon, 'I can't fight this feeling anymore', rather fitting I thought. I was slightly emotional, few tears in my eyes and in complete awe of this amazing woman.

We left mum and baby (and dad of course) 2 hours later. Baby was feeding like a trooper. He had 4 feeds in the 2 hours we were there. The wee man likes boobies I think, he knows whats good for him

I've had hardly any sleep. I got to bed at 2am, I was back up at 6am and back out to work at 11am until 9pm, but I feel fantastic. I'm still on a high. It was my last day out with the community midwives today so i'm sad to leave, but what a way to end my placement Bedtime now for me I think
