Re: Personal Statement Examples Ok, this is mine, so far its got me one interview, Edge Hill said they would have loved to have me but my application was late due to my school. and im still waiting on Bangor and Keele. Three years of long hours, shift work, intense study and exams may not sound like anyone’s idea of a good time. However, to me, it seems like a small price to pay for the privilege and satisfaction of supporting woman and their families in bringing a new life into the world. Although I understand the course will be both difficult and intense, I feel that my duty to care and fulfilment as an end result will keep me focused. I was not fortunate enough to know exactly what I wanted to study at university when I finished my A-levels. Therefore, I took a gap year to gain experiences, earn some money and make some decisions. Since looking into a degree in Midwifery as an option I have both realised and been encouraged that this career suits my passion and personality perfectly. I am specifically interested in how techniques and knowledge is constantly changing, expanding and being updated; meaning that my education in this field will not end once I have my degree, but continue throughout my working life. Also the legal and ethical obligations of the job; although I have been lucky enough to work with people from numerous walks of life, I look forward to learning new skills in how to approach difficult situations, meeting new people and broadening my knowledge in adapting to people and situations. I fully understand that the role of a midwife is not completely focussed on the birth; and that my own life experiences must be built upon alongside the medical content of the course. I recognize that communication with both parents, creating a trusted environment, being able to explain procedures and offer guidance, as well as support existing siblings will be part of my role. I feel that whilst working in particular jobs and volunteering, I have developed skills that will greatly aid me in these areas. As a receptionist I have to communicate with the public on a regular bases; developing skills in being polite and friendly no matter whom I talk to. I also have to deal with people’s bank details; therefore I understand the importance of confidentiality when dealing with personal details and will have no problems talking to patients and colleagues. Whilst working as a coach at Active Camp and a senior assistant at a tuition centre I expanded my communication skills in talking to parents. I understand that discussing one’s child can be a sensitive matter and that people must be confident in knowing that you wish to help them and that their child’s wellbeing is a very high priority. I feel this will carry over to midwifery whilst discussing both the unborn baby and any siblings; parents must be certain that their children are important to me and that I will offer all the help available. Coaching trampolining has helped me as I am constantly adapting and increasing my skills in relating to children; not only do I discuss their progress and set goals with them, but also have to explain the technical side off moves they are trying to master. I feel this links to the profession as I appreciate that you may have to explain procedures and situations in a number of ways for different people to understand, and help women make decision and adapt the birth plan to suit them. Outside of work, I enjoy taking part in sport myself, especially trampolining and swimming. I also take pleasure in getting away from London and mountain walking with my family, mostly in North Wales. Singing is also a hobby of mine, having been part of a choir since I was 8, I now sing for a gospel group who support a singer on her album and on tours where we visit other churches. Although I like spending time with friends and family, I am always up for visiting new places or experiencing something different. I hope to come out of university with both knowledge and zeal that will aid me in becoming the most successful midwife I can be and look forward to using my degree to help others through the most amazing time in their lives.
Hope it helps
