Default What are the universities saying about pass rates for those doing the access course?

Hello to all, this is really a follow on from a discussion with Littenoo which concerned me regarding the inconsistences from universities regarding the access course. It would seem some uni's insist on a PASS on the access course, i.e. the certificate and accreditation, where as others are requesing/insisting that students gain 60% +
At certain colleges it would seem you don't even get your grades, whereas at my college everything was graded some I am a tad confused as to what is going on?
Are universities still not acknowledging it correctly?
Are colleges not running it correctly?
What is going on?
So tell me, what did the uni's insist on? Do you agree? Also What does your local college do?

Leeds: 70% in science modules

Though our college doesn't grade so tells them they have to take the old credit method only.

HI

At my college everything was graded at a % aswell as a level either 2 or 3. The unis i applied to all required 60 level 3 credits for the degree, there was no mention of a %

We just get the credits. ALL modules are level three so I'll finish with 60 level three credits.

At my college, everything except maths is at level 3 but there is an option to do an extra module in maths in order to gain level 3. I've been told that swansea, glam and cardiff are 48 credits at level 3 but not sure if thats entirely accurate.

When I did my access course last year, the college I went to didn't give you a % rate, it was just a level 3.

They did say it would be changing though for the next intake of students, they would be marked at a % rate.

As far as i know for preston, iv'e been told you need at least 60% pass on the access course and they will only take the ones with the highest marks, so if someone gets 66% and you get 65% you might miss out because of that one % which i think is soooo unfair.

Thats awful. They should make offers and stick by them. If they offer dependent on passing access at 60% you should get a place regardless of if you get 60% or 63%!
