What are the qualities needed to be a Midwife ? Which do you feel is most important?

Do you feel only those who are already mothers are better Midwives ?

What are the differences between a Community Midwife & a Midwife working in a hospital environment ?

What would you say care means and how does it differ for Nurses ?

What current issues are there concerning Midwifery practice ?

I was asked all these awful questions and god only knows how I managed to answer them ! So the best advice is to read read read and read ! Also I found it helpful gaining some work experience. I know this can be very hard to find but I got mine through the NHS website. Just type in work experience and it should bring up an application form.

Good Luck !

At my University interview (4 years ago!):

What skills / qualities are the most important when being a midwife?

Have you read or heard anything recently to do with midwifery (and they were after MIDIRS / journals / RCM website etc etc)

If you could not do an essay what would you do? (use that chance to talk about your support network and time management skills etc and that you have spoken to midwives / students and know how hard the course is!)

What skills can you bring to midwifery?

When interviewing prospective students last year for UNI:

Why midwifery and not nursing?

followed by: can you elaborate on that? or as said above, but midwives do sometimes care for women with heart problems / diabetes / hypertension

What do you understand about midwifery and women's health issues?

Have you read or seen anything recently to do with midwifery?

talk about the written piece that had been done prior to personal interview.

What support network / coping strategies do you think that you could utilise / or would need

and a friendly question about how they were finding their A levels / Access course / previous degree

lastly ask if they have any questions

On both occasions they / we were very friendly reassuring and made it claer that it was informal and to relax

Good luck to everyone applying this year, I remember that feeling VERY well!

I got asked... How would your friends describe you?
This one got me.. I was tempted to answer ''I don't have any friends'' as a joke.. But wasn't brave enough! hehe

Hi,
I had an interview today at UWE and got asked:

Why do you want to be a midwife?
What skills and qualities a midwife needs?
What are my skills and qualities?
What have I read midwifery related?
What values a midwife has?
What I would like to do after qualifying?
Do I see myself as a leader?
and a couple more!

I was asked :

What have I done to prepare for entry onto a midwifery degree?

What kind of midwife did I think I would make?? - I did laugh and say a "Brilliant" one!! (nerves)

They must have seen the funny side and offered me a place!!
