I think these were all the questions I was asked.... (I think it lasted about 20 mins)
Why Midwifery? What personal skills/qualities can you bring to it? How would you deal with the death of a baby or mother in your care? How would you deal with the blood/bodily fluids and all the other gory bits (not exact wording obviously)? What did you do to prepare for the interview? What books/journals etc did you read? Which did you like? What 2 stories in your research most interested you? (I think it's their way of checking that you really have read up on the subject and you're not just naming journals and books you've never actually read. So my advice would be to defo read up the subject and recent stories in the media). What is your academic work like? They also asked how I felt about travelling to placement. I talked LOADS (all while my top lip was shaking uncontrolably) and my answers led to a bit of discussion on the articles I had read which I think impressed them. I came home and cried after my interview; I think it must have been a release of all the nerves. A week later I got a letter to say I'd been put on reserve and then 2 days later I was offered a place. If I can do it; anyone can! GOOD LUCK!!!!!! |

Just got back from my interview. It wasn't actually as intense as I thought it would be and the interviewers were really calming and made me feel at ease.
The questions that I can remember are along the lines of What is the role of a midwife? Have you researched the course and what can you tell me is involved? How will the course work, shift work ect fit into your life? How would you react if something went wrong eg a stillbirth? Hope this helps |

My interview today for UWS Hamilton I was asked:
What brings you here today, why midwifery? What does a midwife actually do? Tell me about yourself? Do you enjoy learning as part of a group? Can you tell us a subject you will study as part of the course and why it is relevant? I can't remember most of the interview to be honest, a lot of the questions led to other discussion so it doesn't seem like much but we were in for around 20 minutes.
