Default A couple of Questions!

Hey Everyone!!

I'm preparing for my interview next mouth and there's a few questions I would like to ask you all, because I'm not sure how to answer them!

1) "How would you cope if a Woman in your care had a stillbirth?"
2) "What are the priorities of a woman in Labour?"
3) "Do you feel that only those who are already mothers are better Midwives?"
4) "What role does a Midwife play in Health Promotions?"
5) "What are your views on abortion?"

Thank you!!

Zoy x

Hi Zoy,

Why dont you have a go at answering them with what you think and we'll all pitch in noone will mock you or say anything horrible so just have a go and we'll give you some pointers the question about stillbirth comes up alot on here and I refer people to this thread...

http://www.studentmidwife.net/introd...-to-apply.html

have a read and have a think and see how you think you would deal with it....... its a difficult subject but the reality is its part of our job.

Dont be shy have a bash at the answers

Thanks TallPoppy, ok well, here goes then! My attempt at answers!

1) Both the mother and the partner need to be emotionally supported and taken through exactly what had happened and why, and also what the next steps are to move forward and cope. Even though this support cannot take the pain away, it can help them to getting back on track with what they want to do next.

2) A woman in labour wants to have access to the best possible care and support, as well as having a safe (though maybe not always easy) delivery.

3) I think that Mothers may have more of a physical experience than those who do not have children, but it is not necessarily an advantage. It may be difficult to displace themselves from their own experiences of pregnancy and not to look into all aspects with an un-bias view.

4) I have no idea for this one =[

5) In my opinion, I would be concerned about giving the woman in question the most options that are available to her at that point and ensuring she is given totally un-bias information, making sure it is totally her choice!

Phew! Well, that's what I think! Please feel free to put me right!

Zoy............

You did really well! WELL DONE!!!

1. Good answer.

2. Id add that the womans and the babies health is paramount aswell as what you said.

3. Perfect answer maybe have a look at the midwife mother realtionship book it has an excellent chapter on this.

4. The midwifes role re health promotion is basically what it says on the tin - providing women with advice and support to make informed choices about theirs and thier babies health i.e. stopping smoking, eating iron rich foods etc

5. Good answer - you basically said you would care for her and not judge her but support her decision - this is good stuff.

There you go, you did know the answers after all
