Default work ex?

Hi Everyone, just wanted to know your opinion on getting some work experience with a midwife before interveiws. I'm sure it would be invalubale but am i likely to be allowed to shadow a midwife for a couple of days? has anyone done it and how would i go about it?

I contacted the local hospital volunteers coordinator who then put me through to the work experience coordinator and they arranged for me to have 1 weeks work experience in the summer hols.. Not sure I'll be taking it now though as time is tight and I already have a place.

Hi,
Have you tried contactng your local maternity hospital? they normally have a head of volunteers person who sorts things like this out (although i do no some hospitals dont allow volunteers on any kind of maternity ward, you would have to check if the hospital does or not).

Or, i shadowed an independant midwife for a day for a bit of experience, i found her by just searching independant midwives near to wheer i live and phoned and asked if i could shadow her for a day or two.

Good luck

I shadowed a local sure start midwife for a day and ended up going into hospital to be a birth support for one of the women we saw.

I volunteer every Tuesday on the maternity ward and it has been really good. I at least will know when I start where things are kept, midwives names, how to make a c-section bed etc. I just rang head of voluntary services and was all arranged through them. Couldnt recommend it highly enough.
