| I remember all too well the rater daunting process of applying to become a student midwife..... Personal statements..... (I wrote mine about 3,000 times LOL) filling in that HUGE application form with mad codes and stuff....... and as for the interviews, how to prepare? what will they ask me? what do I wear?!!! Anyone else feeling the same? Go on, quiz me!!! If they took me first time I applied then they will take anyone hehe

| I don't know whether it helped but I wore a suit, clean shoes and shook their hands when I entered the room and when I left, whilst looking them in the eye and smiling. I was myself, if very nervous! i shudder at some of the things I said though and think I must've scraped through! Best of British to you for yours!

| I was wandering what are good questions to ask them? You know at the end when they say have you got any questions? My mind usually goes blank or i ask something really stupid! What would be a good question/questions to ask?

| I went 'casual' because I had a suit type job I didnt want them to think I was a 'suit' so I went in smart trousers and a nice top, my aim was to look like a 'nice girl' lol a little bit of makeup not loads and hair up and smart. I also made sure I was well groomed generally, I thought I cant turn up with untidy nails etc as Im sure they will look at things like presentation. Afterall you are going to be interviewed to become an advocate for women and for the profession, so you need to look clean and smart, be well mannered and confident in why you want to follow this path. Good questions to ask are things that show you have looked into the course and even better if youve managed to get a tour of the base site you may be offered then ask about that. Ask where they stand on the RCM normal birth campaign etc look into current issues and themes in midwifery atm and bring them in.

| Hi Everyone. Ive been on other Midwifery Forums but was emailed a link to this recently so thought i pop by and say hello. I need help actually. Ive applied two years running for Midwifery and been unsuccessful in Plymouth. I was offered a Adult Nursing place this sept as an alternative and took it cause thought a foot in the door would halp and maybe was another route to the ultimate goal of being a midwife. Its still my passion and want to put in another application this year and only have a short space of time to do so but ive been put off by my tutor. He say i woud need a very good case to justify doing a year as an adult nurse before becoming a midwife, although technically ive only done a few months so far. has anyone been in this postion and can you help with the right thing to say in a personal statement pls. thanks in anticipation debz desperate to be a midwife and 36 already!! |
