I'm an mca and i love my job. Yes there is a lot of cleaning but you get a real perspective as to the role of the midwife, and its soooo rewarding when you assist at deliveries and are giving breastfeeding support etc it makes all the cleaning worthwhile! When i applied for my job, i told them i was hoping to become a midwife and they have been really supportive and encouraging. Good Luck x

Hi just thought I'd update this, I called up the maternity unit just before I sent off my application and they were looking for someone to work part time monday to friday, so I told the lovely lady I wouldn't be able to work those days as I'll be starting college, so she offered me a weeks work experience! Yippee more than happy with that! So if I get an interview at uni I've to call her back and she'll set it up for a week just before my interview. So thanks guys for encouraging me to go for the job anyway, work experience will be great and a woman from NCT emailed and asked me to do some volunteer work so it's worked out better! x
