I found out on thurs night i will not be a student midwife this time round

I am now trying to work out what to do for a year ???

Really sorry to hear your sad news, hope you get some feedback, as I am sure it will prove helpful for the future applications you make.

There is also clearing, so all may not be lost yet.

See now i must be really dim cause i dont know how clearing works ??? Is it when you can just phone them up to see if they have filled all the places ??? I was only able to apply to one uni as i dont drive and would have trouble getting to work placements at the other uni . SO can i still phone them ??

No, your not dim hunni, all this application stuff is very complicated to understand.

In July, UCAS will send you a document called a 'clearing passport' keep this safe as you will need it if you decide to try and get a place at uni. It has your unique number on it which the uni will need if you are offered a place.

Once the A level results are published in August, uni's with vacancies will make them available in newspapers, online via UCAS etc, and if there is a uni with vacancies you want to apply for, you ring them up and see if they will consider you.

There are no guarantees of course, but to me it is worth looking into. I got into uni last year from clearing, but the uni phoned me to see if I was still interested in a place, and eventually I was accpeted. So that is another way you might have a chance of a place.

Ok so if people dont get the grades from a levels they dont get the place ?? is that right ?? They did say at the interview day that they could phone you a week before the start of the course and give you a place so even a no might not be a definate no!!! It is so confusing and frustrating . My friend from college did notget in as well and she has spent all yesterday crying

i will text her about clearing... it may cheer her up alittle

So sorry to hear that you didn't get in this time.

How about applying for a HCA job for a year? You would gain some really valuable experience.

Yes, that is right, also some people are in a position that they apply to more than one uni, get offers from two or more, and decide to go to one of the other uni's, therefore freeing up a place for someone else. That is what happened to me.

No, it isn't a definate no, I got my place four weeks before the start of the first semester.
