Default Reference Question

Hi everyone

I need some advice on how to ask my new employer for a ref and when say new I mean I started last week.

I have managed to get a HCA post in womens health so obviously I want to use this as my ref instead of old pub manager coleagues.

At my interview for the job I did tell them I would return to study(didn't specify nursing or midwifery though) I'm applying for 09 entry

When should I ask? The UCAS deadline is 15th Jan and as I'm applying to Christchurch they wait until all apps are in before shortlisting but do I say it now or wait until nearer Xmas.

Heidi

Do you not have an academic reference? I was advised to use an academic one for first reference and work if I needed a second.

I would use the pub one, uni told us they look for a good variety, when I told them my (vast) work experience and alot of that was running pubs/filling in for hols etc, aswell as others they said I'd have gotten used to handling ppl on different levels I agreed and stated my "interpersonal" skills were second to none. Go for the pub, I'd hand form in asap, but don't understand why your applying now for 2009??

Hi Tracyb

Christchurch are interviewing for 2009 entry now or will be in March/April. That's why there is not any hurry to get the application in as they don't shortlist for interview until after the 15th January. If I was applying to other uni's I wouldn't need to apply until next year. It's just the way CCCU work.

Littlenoo

I don't really have a current academic ref as I am studying with the OU so my tutors only know me online.

Yeah the mid year is Feb. When they interview they ask which campus. When you start in the entry year depends on which campus you want.

Chatham is the Feb start and Canterbury is the Sept start.

Tracyb

It seems like a lifetime away. It seems so rushed now as I wanted to apply for 09 so my little one would be bigger. It was only recentley that I realised I would have to apply this year for that.
Anyway thanks for the good luck wishes.
Good luck for you too. Not long now!!!
