you wouldn't be expected to!!
don't forget, the latent phase can sometimes take hours, so normally you have plenty of time (famous last words).
and if not, you have a BBA!! (born before arrival!)

Also, on calls, cover daytime hours as well. So you may be working and be the on call for the team for anything that happens in the day, so in
that case it might just mean going home late, rather than getting up in the middle of the night.
I know a student (you know who you are) that slept in her clothes for the first couple of weeks 'just in case!' 18months into the course, she has never been called out once!!!

STMW 2nd year - no, really!

when i stated what happens

i meant like little noo said if you are on call i would like to try for cardiff i live in llanelli so from llanelli to cardiff its like over an hours drive so if i was on call how would i get to someone whos in cardiff the woman might have given birth by then (cardiff is in the back of my mind at the mo im gonna have to look in to it more thats why ive asked about this i might actually ask the uni) xxxx

Cardiff do great information days, you can talk to students already studying midwifery and the tutors. No question is too daft, they really want you to ask anything so you know what you are getting into. At interview they did talk about for example students who have been on placement in Abergavenny and have stayed in B&B as it has been too far to travel (the B&B was run by the parents of a midwife at Nevil Hall I think, if I remember right). I really would go to one of the Open Days, the next one is June 18, failing that phone them up and have a chat, they really don't mind!
