All midwifery courses are funded by the NHS - so yes, they're free! (The NHS pays for our training...!

I think...

Yes it's free there are no tuition fees, like Kate said it's funded by the NHS. All Midwifery students in Wales also get a non-means tested bursary of about £6500 a year, its not the case for those studying Midwifery in English Unis.

Spunky
the tuition fees is the bit that is funded by the NHS, so you don't have to pay.
Your on call will depend on a lot of things.....
1) on call is for community midiwfery in general not when you are on hospital shift
2) not all community placements are near hospitals, you may be lucky and get one nearer to home
3) not all community placements expect students to do on calls.

amongst other things!!

in your post you say 'does anyone know what happens when on call and live far away .......etc'
am not sure what you mean by 'what happens' - what happens in terms of what?? if you can clarify a bit, i will try and help some more
x

I also wonder about on calls and my distance from placement. In the choices I've made... some placements could be 60 miles away... Wouldn't get there in 15 minutes
