Question How has midwifery changed in 10 years?

I noticed on the interview questions people have been asked; this is one of them..

Can anyone out there give me a bit of insight into this?

Is there somewhere I can find this information?

Can anyone share their experiences/knowledge, compared to now to give me a better idea.

Much appreciated.

Natalie

I would like to know the answer this one too. My interview is coming up in Aug, for Napier Uni.

Were midwives struggling like they are today, with too few to go around all the women, or is this a more recent crisis? I don't know.. 10 years ago I was 8 years old and didn't really keep up with the news.

Don't really know much either I'm afraid! I do know there was more scope for what was known as the nursery - where babes could sometimes go of a night to let mummy catch some winks... Ummmm probably more hospital births and bottle fed babes as both very strongly promoted in the 70's and is still taking a long time to change! Ummm, young single mums were still far more frowned upon and if specialist support existed - it was rarer!

Really though your best bet is probably to pop along to your local community midwives - or phone them - and just ask - most community midwives have been knocking about a fair few years so chances are they'll be able to talk to you - or at least be able to point you to someone who remembers!

Sorry I couldn't be more use!
