Who can give me a reference??

Hi everyone

Thinking about my UCAS form (gulp! I hate them!) and one bit that is worrying me is the reference section.

I am sure my previous employer will do one, I left that job in Feb 06 but I worked there 2 years.

I have no idea for a second reference. I'm not doing Access so have no tutor to ask, which I guess is who does a lot of references for people? I finished Uni for the first time in 2002, the professor who did my references has most likely retired or won't remember me! Besides which I'm not sure an elderly history proffesor could help much!

So who do I ask? I was thinking of asking the lady who runs the BF counselling course but that is not starting til Jan and only had a couple of phone calls so she barely knows me at the mo!

Help! So worried about it it is making me think I should apply the year after instead of next year!

Hi sweetie, could you ask someone else you used to work with? I was in similar postition to you, I had left work in 2005 after having my first baby but I was able to get a reference from my manager and a colleague which was fine. xxx

Your first reference should ideally be an academic reference and your second reference should ideally (mine was a condition of my offer!) an employer's reference.

Thanks Noo, but how can I get an academic reference? What about people that finished any previous study a looooong time ago, how would they get an academic reference? I know you need evidence of recent study but I am doing this distance learning so could not get a ref from them

College's are meant to keep your file for about 5 years I think so try asking them

I'm not sure. I thought unis wanted a reference to show your academic ability. I don't know. Don't you have any tutors for your DL course?

I've only just started it, so not sure. I will look into it a little.

Personally I didn't need an academic reference but its probably best to check with the uni you are applying to x

Good luck with finding some kind of ref. I know some people have a lot of trouble with this but the other way round
