Hey JS, welcome to the site!
Why midwifery and not nursing? That's a matter of personal opinion, if your speaking/asking with regards to interview then Midwifery is concerned with the care of normally healthy women during pregancy, birth and the postnatal period. Nursing is the care of people who are sick or injured hth? Good luck for your interview!!

Hi. In midwifery you mostly deal with well women (mainly) and in nursing you deal with sick people. I told them it would be a privelage (spelling ??)to be involved with a woman and her family during a very special time of her life. I was told not to say "because i love babies" by many people, because it's not just about babies. It's a very diverse role, but a very rewarding one.
Hope this helps a bit but maybe one of the other students/midwives may be able to offer more advice. Good luck with your interview. xx ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() xx

Thats fantastic, another question I have thought about i might be asked what the current issues are that effect midwifery at the moment and i'm researching but can not pin point one answer

I guess thats because there isn't JS!
You could mention a few, or discuss one in depth if it interests you the most? I chose the increase inn C/S rate, still relevant now!! There are loads, one mother one midwife campaign, independent midwifery ruising levels of obesity and its impact on preganancy and labour, rising levels of ethnic minorities, particularly those not speaking English and its impact on their labour care as interpreters must be provided at cost. Lack of jobs for midwives, particularly newly qualifed midwives......

Don't worry about just giving one answer - a few will show that you have researched it. The obvious one is shortage of midwives, but i think this affects the South more than the North of the country. Because they are so understaffed they are not able to offer the care that they would like to give to the women. I took some paper cuttings with me for my interview to show that i was researching everything i could. I also named a few books that i had read about the role.
Mind you, after all that, they didn't actually ask me about current issues, but i told them anyway. That's me and my mouth though...

Mine didn't. I had to do a presentation on the role of midwifery and then it was questions and answers with two midwives. They were really lovely though and put me at ease. Just be yourself and let your passion for wanting to be a midwife show through. I took some of my college assessments with me which had personal comments from my tutours on them as well. I think it just showed that i was really determined to do everything i could to get the place and i gushed midwifery. Please let us know how you get on. They will understand that you will be nervous. I have my fingers crossed for you.
xx
