Applying to uni with Access Qualification

Hi All

Has anyone applied who has just done the Access course as recent study??? I have 5 GCSE's and 2 O'levels plus Adult Numeracy Level 2 and I don't think most of this will apply - is the Access course enough - I start this in a couple of weeks?????? Will I be able to apply for 2009 or will I have to wait until 2010

Worried and confused...................any advice appreciated.

I'm just about to start access but doing it over 2 years part time. The college has good links with the uni so is fairly up to speed with what they are asking for for entry. I also have 6 GCSE's plus 4 A level equivalences but no recent study within the past 5 years which is why I'm doing access. I think with access you need to check how many credits it will give you as different uni's have different entry criteria. If you know the uni you are looking to apply for maybe ring them and check what they will be looking for.

Hi there J. The Access course is definitely acceptable as evidence of recent study, so don't worry about that.

Whether you can apply for 2009 or have to wait depends on how long your Access course runs for? If it's over one year, then you will be able to apply this September for Sept 2009 entry; if it's two years long, then you'll have to wait until Sept 2009 to apply.

As Karen said, check with the Uni(s) you are hoping to apply to, as different Unis have different specific requirements regarding Access courses, including numbers of credits needed and at what level.

I'm on the 1 year course so I'm hoping to apply for Sept 09. I'll call tomorrow regarding the Access points as I haven't a clue as to how many they require - I'm seeing my course tutor to enrol next week - maybe they will have more information.

Im starting access on the 15th september, its for a year part time 2 days a week 8 hours a week. I know that you can just get to uni with the access but you have to have the credits they ask for. I have 2 gcses i have also done a counselling course which i heared goes in your favour, dont know if it is true but been told by my tutor that the uni like you to have it. I will be applying in the first 3 weeks of starting access am im starting to get excited now ive also been told that if you can get through access you will fly through uni lets hope then lol xxxxx

Hey! Just a word of advice though if you're only on the 1 yr course. Most Access tutors would usually wait til at least 1st halfterm holiday before writing references as otherwise they're writing references for people they don't know and haven't seen any work from. Don't panic if they don't seem quite as eager as you are to get things in xx

Access is fine, I completed this year (only qualification I have at 36) and got offers at both Uni's I applied to!!
Agree with Noo, we didn't get our applications into ucas until November because the Tutors would not write references until we had results from first assignments!
