Hi Guys,
It's been a manic few months and I am briefly drawing breath before my viva in May and my dissertation.
I have applied for four jobs this week - have no idea if my personal statement was even close to what is required.

I have applied to University College London, Newham, North Middlesex and my own trust. I thought I'd be a bit cheeky as my trust isn't advertising at the moment, I filled in a applicataion form anyway and handed it to the labour ward manager - they seemed quite pleased, which was a relief!

Anyway good luck Tracy, I'm sure our paths will cross one day - midwifery is such a small world.

Yes you never know, good luck to you too, I've also applied to Wigan then they changed the ad the day after to internal only-how infuriating, alas what can I do? Its great that the trusts support their own students, but surely its good for us to spread our wings a little?? I like challenge and aren't afraid of change that is currently the underlying issue with the services at the mo' isn't it? I'd love to work at my own Trust. yet also feel I'd gain great experience going elsewhere-it would just be nice to have anyone of the options!! (oh for a perfect world!) x

That is so true, it's crazy isnt it?

And yet again it all comes down to money. I was reading that there is a vacency rate of 5% UK wide and almost 8% in London, and I KNOW my trust has over 20 vacencies but they just are not advertising. This is why midwives are overstreached, students are treated as staff, and stress levels are through the roof.

It's makes me laugh - the government has pledged 4000 extra midwives by 2012 what are they going to do wait till the night before to employ them all?!

Ok polotical rant over....

Haha yes the night before, what a fab year to be qualifying in eh?
There is nothing round here at all for me, if I do get a job somewhere it will be at least an hours commute, imagine some Trusts do 14 hour shifts, you may aswell sleep there, 2 hours travelling, you gotta get there early to get changed, never leave on time, so that 17 hours mmm nice and safe x
