| Hi All! I am new to the site and am posting as I am in need of some help/advice! I am doing an access course and am currently writing an essay on my chosen topic - home births versus hospital births. I have to plan and produce well structured pieces of text which show a sustained and logical argument or theme.... I hope my chosen subject is appropriate? I think it is? I am struggling though with the argument side of things cos I have found lots of info/articles which say home birth is as safe as hospital births but not the opposite? I need to put together an argument by the sounds of it? I am looking for articles against home births so I can complete my essay and draw up a conclusion. I am personally for home births in low risk pregnancies as I had a home birth myself but I can not be biased and put my views across!? Hope I have not blabbed too much! xx |

| Hi there Good topic and no you didnt blabber on too much, we love all that on here, a good waffle So you need to balance out your arguement a bit, articles against homebirth..... I agree it will be tricky as Im sure you have discovered the RCM's campaign for normal birth says very clearly that there is no evidence. I recall a study from the states where their equivalent of the RCOG (Royal College of Gynaecologists) tried to say homebirth was unsafe but it appeared their data collection method was dodgy and skewed the results but the study is one of the few that I recall that had said homebirth was unsafe http://www.mana.org/WAHomeBirthStudy.pdf There is also the matter of accidential homebirth stats getting mixed up with planned homebirth stats this tends to skew any results that the 'otherside' try to rely on to discredit homebirth advocates. This is a good summary http://www.homebirth.org.uk/homebirth4.htm Not sure Ive helped much as it is a tricky one to oppose in this day and age for low risk women! Welcome to the site, btw Jx
