45 credits wouldn't get me into uni.. unless its a different credit system... Leeds wanted 54, Teesside, York and Bradford 48.

I was offered interview at Leeds on 45 credits that they knew about and I got offers from Bradford and Huddersfield without having any other level 3 credits.

All of the people that applied from my acces course this year for both nursing and midwifery have all got places - In Bradford and Nottingham.

We have been told it is a pilot course that has never been done this way before, but it has been accredited by AQA and okay'd by UCAS and the University as suitable for Access to Health Professions degrees, people are applying for midwifery, nursing and, dental, and paramedics using this. panicked a bit when I saw the credits that uni's were asking for but haven't had any problems from this and my conditional offers don't specify a credit limit they say Pass required.

Ahh okay, our Access needs 48 credits to pass and Leeds want a higher level than pass and also passrate of 70%. I also had an interview there.

Depends how much each module is.. mine are worth...

Semester 1
English Langauge 6 credits
Cell Biology 6 credits
Professional Nursing 3 credits
Academic Writing 3 credits
Access induction 3 credits

Semester 2
Human Physiology 9 credits
English Literature 6 credits

Semester 3
Culture & Society 9 credits
Advanced Seminar 3 credits

Semester 4 (home study.. finished my class based modules)
Research project needs signing off 9 credits
Opport. for Higher Education 3 credits

So in total .... 60 credits at level 3... Teesside just want a pass so thats 48, though Leeds would have wanted 54 with 70% passrate in ALL modules

Hi Noo

Apparently our access course is a Pass at 50% and we get an overall grade eg A B C (which we have been told means nothing to the unis!)

What upset me was that we were not told BEFORE we enrolled for the course that it was a pilot OR how many credits it was worth! We only found out after we had applied through UCAS and recieved interviews for uni's and we were going to open days and looking at prosepctus's, which is when we asked how many credits we got.

We were all panicking so much that we were being used as an experiment without being told beforehand and that our access would be worthless at the end of it! The girl who is going to Nottingham is having a major panic at the moment as her conditions say that she must pass the access but it must include 25 credits at level 3 for biology... which we are not sure it does! the rest of our conditions just say pass, we were warned by one uni before applying though that we would need to achieve A grades (+70%) all the way through to get on the midwifery course but only C grades (+50%) to get on nursing, which freaked a few out and made them apply for nursing instead!

oooh ok

This is how mine goes.....each subject is done over the whole year and is worth the following:

Communication and study skills : 18 credits at Level Three

Human Biology : 24 Credits at Level Three

Psychology : 24 Credits at Level Three

Health Studies Social and Biological sciences :24 Credits at Level Three

Information Technology : 15 credits at Level Three

I have also already got 15 level three credits from Sociology that were completed on my first go at the access course....

so that would be 120 credits at level three overall....Blimey its like i'm doing it twice to get that many credits!!no wonder i feel overworked!!

xx

Very odd how different it can be depending on where you go!

The most frustrating bit is also the price difference... sometimes I feel like I have been taken advantage of cos I paid the mighty sum of £800 for my access which only gives 6hrs/wk tuition in college and only 45 credits! Don't get it at all... not complaining cosI did get an offer with it, just feel a little hard done by sometimes.

I don't know how you lot are coping with the workload of your courses, it must be HUGE with all those credits to get ! I think you will probably be much better prepared for uni than me.

£800!!Blimey thats quite a lot of money to part with!!

There was no charge on my access course when i started in september. But now , from this september they will be charging for the course...I'm not sure how much though but £800 must be very offputting for many students!!
