Know how you feel, I was in the same boat 4 years ago, its really tough isn't it? Only I didn't have an offer then , so perhaps thats what kept me going.
I'm the same now with the midwifery I have to write about my experience managing the ward, I have no motivation to do that or my portfolio or key skills, but I sit here, day in day out plodding through, it is boring yes definately boring, just hold the thought in your head that it won't be long before your doing what really inspires you xx

I would say it takes me about 4-6 hours to do a 2000 word essay but I couldn't sit there and do it all in one go, two afternoons if I'm lucky enough to get a couple of free afternoons, usually over 2-3 nights though, when the kids are in bed.

I have the same advice as everybody else, just try and stick with it. Set a realistic target and stick to it... say 500 words a day, or 3 hours a day and then switch off for a while. That way you wont feel burnt out, however if you suddenly get a second wind and the words are flowing go with it!

I am currently wrinting a 4000 word essay on Public Health and the Role of the Midwife. I dont know how some of you write 2000 wods in 4 hours!!!! WOW I have been working on this thing for days and I only have 1800 words done.

We all know how you feel, but it will be worth it. I dont know how everyone else felt but I felt just as bad with the transistion from Access to Uni which blew my mind!

wow 4000 words is massive!!! I am more of a plodder when it comes to essays - I find that is very frustrating, i am unable to just 'go for it' I am just too picky, I actually found a really good article which suggests that the more of a 'perfectionist' you are the more likely you are to procrastinate - which certainly rings true for me...

I do have massive anxiety attacks that if I cannot handle this how will I cope at degree level.. but I do think my lecturers actually push towards undergraduate standards already which should help in theory - we will see wont we

You will cope - you will learn to. And it does help if you are interested in the topic. Although even in midwifery there will be topics that you dont enjoy. Last semester one of assignments was a 4000 word ethics essay - that thing nearly killed me because not only did I HATE IT but like you the essay has to be 'right'.

But I passed and I try to think of essays like contractions..... each one brings you closer to the end goal!

What a fab way of thinking about it Cinders!

I did something last night which has helped motivate me with my access assignments.

I wrote a list of all the assignments we have to do over the year, then put a big line through the ones I've already finished. Then I put how many units they are worth down the side. Then I counted how many units I have 'in the bag' i.e. marked and awardde, how many are pending i.e. done but not marked yet, and how many are left to do.

It really helped to see how many I've got because it was more than I thought and made me feel really good, plus seeing how many are left to do is a strong motivator, as is the thought of being able to cross them off the list.

I can fully sympathise with you. I too am on the Access course and I cannot find it in myself to get motivated to start on my essays and assignments. I want to be a Midwife more than anything in the world so I cannot understand why I feel that I need a great big kick up the bum. I have sort of got bored of the course, if you know what I mean, I just want to move onto Uni now.

My offer is also conditional and I have a biology exam first thing Monday morning and I haven't even started revising!

take care

I guess it is good to know that we are all in the same boat - I am the only one doing Midwifery on my Access course so I feel a bit like an island at times...

The 2 hour thing is a great idea, I just have to not spend the first hour and a half avoiding work!!!!

Can I ask as a v v v rough guide how long do most of you spend on your essays? say an 1800 word one in total?

I found keeping going a chore.. particularly the first semester in my second year.. I hated the module but it was the one worth the most credits! I was trying to finish access while attending interviews and waiting on my application.. a bloomin nightmare! The way I looked at it... I needed to drag myself through it to accept any place I was offered... I had to keep going or I'd end up having to do it ALL again at a later date to reapply!

I know how you feel i also have just over 8 weeks to go and stacks of assignments to do plus revision for 2 biology exams to do for next week, i'm absolutly shattered and have been staying at college till late everyday this week, i just keep thinking that its nearly over and that if i give it this one final push i get to go to uni and become a midwife, keep thinking about your dream you can do it.
