| Hi Guys I hope you can help I have not been a member of this forum for very long but everyone seems so nice I am needing to ask a favour I am struggling with my Access course My course is not related to health or Midwifery (it's Sociology & Psychology) and I am finding it hard to complete the assignments I will go as far as to say it's not lack of understanding (all my work I produce is Level 3) it's finding the motivation when the subject is well 'boring'. How do you do it??!!! I mean I am so lucky I don't work, I have a study room, I have great support its all me I have some essays which are due next week - and they are sitting waiting to be done, I will avoid doing them at all costs I sound so pathetic but it is really getting to me....

| Really feel for you. It is so hard to stay focused because you have a place. Why not set your self targets, say two hours a day to just do essays then do something else with the time. It may help to keep you focused for that time and you may achieve a lot in the time. I hope your mojo returns as you have so nearly reached the end. Keep going hun! ![]()

| I can relate so much to what you are saying, I have a relective essay due in on Friday, and have sat most of the mroning just staring at it. Actually knowing what I am doing and if what i have got so far is right would help. ![]() I do have other issues going on which don't help much, but even so, I know I have to get it done, but can I be bothered...in a word no!!!! I keep hoping the assignment fairy will come and do it for me. As has already been suggested, set some time each day to get some done, then do something you want to do, you may find that once you get going you want to carry on and do some more, that sometimes happens to me, especially when deadlines are looming. Good luck.

| I know exactly how you feel because I am in exactly the same boat! I have been avoiding my assignments for my access course which I finish very soon too. I have just spent an hour forcing myself to write something for a psych essay and although I have only done 500 words, I feel so much better that I have made a start. The only advice I can give you is to just keep plugging away at your assignments and don't feel like you have to do them all in one sitting. Good luck for finishing!!

| Just want to reiterate what everyone else had said really honey. Keep focused on your goal and don't feel like you have to do your assignments all in one go! Take some time for you! Whether thats a looooveeellly long bubble bath, a nice walk or a bit of shopping. Take it bit by bit and eventually it'll all fall into place. That's what I'm doind anyway and tbh it seems to be helping. I finish Access very soon and have a lot of work still to do but by concentrating only on that I feel I'm stressing myself out and not getting anything done so chillax for a few hours and refresh yourself. You'll feel much more prepared then... At the end of all this love - you're going to be a student and then a qualified midwife - keep that goal in sight and I'm sure you'll find it slightly easier. xxx

| It's reaally hard to keep going with the access essays once you've been accepted - it's natural to be so focussed on starting the midwifery that you get impatient and demotivated with the access stuff. But you need to get it done, as your midwifery place is probably conditional on your access course. You've had some excellent suggestions so far, setting yourself an amount of time each day to do it, giving yourself rewards along the way etc. Essays that you're not interested in are not fun, but they are hoops that you need to jump through to get where you want to be - and you'll find that you feel the same about some of the essays on the midwifery course as well. And it's easier to jump through one hoop at a time, while you've got time on your side, than trying to jump through a huge stack of hoops the night before the submission date - I'm the last minute queen - I know these things!

| Thanks so much for all your words and encouragement - I have had a fairly productive day, I do my Access course at a University so I went to the library as I feel it has a more 'focusing effect' (less distractions) when I am there. My Degree is conditional so yes I HAVE to pass this but knowing this doesn't motivate me either so I felt a bit like a lost cause.... I guess it is good to know that we are all in the same boat - I am the only one doing Midwifery on my Access course so I feel a bit like an island at times... The 2 hour thing is a great idea, I just have to not spend the first hour and a half avoiding work!!!! Can I ask as a v v v rough guide how long do most of you spend on your essays? say an 1800 word one in total?

| Hi love, am in exactly the same boat too! If I have a whole day, that is 9.30 till 3.00 (inbetween school runs!) I find I can get a 1500-2000 word essay done from start to finish and typed up. Thats only if I have all the books for what I need. So a little prep and then I just sit there, lots of cups of tea and a sandwhich! So I would say 5 hrs roughly! Good luck. xx

| I know exactly how you feel hun! I did the Access to HE 2 years ago and its seems that way but honestly you will find the motivation from somewhere even if its the night before they are due!! The problem with the Access is, is that you are doing about 8 subjects in one year and they are all studied at a level 3 level (ARRGGHH!!) I promise this will get easier and if you keep in your mind that midwifery is the job for you and you need to pass this course to get that job you will feel the fire ignite inside yourself!! Good Luck with it Claire xx This prob aint much help to you (sorry xx)
