Angry Anybody good at english?????

Hiii Iv'e just officially started Access to Midwifery and my very first module is english!!arghh.

anyway im really, really struggling with one of the questions on the assessment which go's like this....

Explain what happens in the following story using the passive verb form/voice,
consistent tense and with correct subject/verb agreement.

Does anybody know at all what this means???
I have the story but not sure if I am allowed to paste it on here. It's probably a lot easier than i think!!

The questions are quite difficult to understand and with it being a distance learning course i have nobody to compare notes with etc feeling rather sorry for myself at the moment!!haha been trying to work this question out all night!!!

Passive voice means pretty much in past tense... So....
SarahLou85x is starting her Access to midwifery course with a little confusion over overly complicated wording
... as apposed to

SarahLou85x was confused by the overly complicated wording on her Access course assignment
Does that make sense?

Hope that helps... Also take a look at the BBC AS/A2 Guru.. thats usually quite good xx

Hi, I have just started this course too and just completed the English and passed. It does sound quite complex at first but if you look at the course material it does explain the passive voice. Are you doing this via distance learning (like me)? When speaking in a passive voice the subject of the writing is mentioned last ie. The Man crashed his car. The passive voice would be, The car was crashed by the Man. If writting a report in the passive voice which i think you also have to do, you just write it as though you are a witness or in the third person. I was terrified when i first read the assessment but realy it is quite straight forward. Wait till you get to the level 3 stuff!!
If your still not sure just speak to your tutor, i'm sure they can explain it better. As my tutor said to me 'don't panic you will pass'.

Kind Regards
Jayne

PS: If it is the story about Smokey's Bar, all i did was right a report-like description of what was happening (leaving out all the flowery detail).

Like you would if writting a witness statement. My tutor said this was fine!
If you like i can send you my report to read through.

OOh, I thought I was very good at English but I don't understand half of that!

Consistent tense means sticking to either past or present throughout, not swapping back and forth. Good luck! Hope you pass!

Hii Thanks for the links littlenoo. I'll have a look.
I know how to put it in the passive voice but the question just looks too frightening hahaha.

Hiii Bumpbad!!Yes it is the smokey's bar one!!!! haha. Awww i'm glad i found someone else doing it. I looked on their forum and it's rather quiet!!lol.
I would really appreciate it if you could look over it when i've finished? That would be great!! Some of the questions are quite straight forard but i worry myself thinking they're harder than what they are!

My friend who's an english whizz is even struggling to help me on this one! But the information about putting it as if i were writing a report has really helped. Thanks very much for that! x x x x x

No problem! I'd be glad to have a look at it.

l felt the same as you when i first saw the assessment!!

I do think it seems alot more complicated than it actually is.

My tutor has been great when i've emailed or phoned her with any queries i've had.

I agree their forum is a bit quiet, glad to see there is now someone in the same boat as me! I've just completed the Maths (my worst subject!) and have started the communications assessment (1500 word essay on an ethical subject aaarrgggghhh) Hope to get my maths grading tomorrow.

Best of luck
Jayne.

Thaks very much. Really appreciate it!!!
Is it maths after english and then communications?? argghh haha, I just want to start with all the interesting things ie child welfare and development etc!!

My tutor rang me last night and i asked if it was ok to start the assessment. The rest looks quite straight forward. Also struggled a bit on the question where you have to write abour a character, a scene from your holiday or opening presents at christmas! I've done it, but don't think it's right!!! I'm also doing level 2 english as the uni im applying to wants it and that is baby work compared to all this!!!haha x x x x

I think you have to do English and Maths first then Communications and statistics!! As these are compulsary.

Then you can go onto the interesting stuff like Biology, child welfare etc.

For my story i did a day from my last Holiday. Wrote it like a story then just re-wrote it like a report/statement (again). Got a 'Good' on my credit score for it!!!
