Ooooh shazz,

That sounds like double dutch to me, sorry I can't help, but I will be interested to see what it all means. I am sure someone will be able to answer your question.

hiya

they are used in algebra and use real numbers and variables

polynominals are the sums of monomials

ie monomial is 5y or -6 squared
a binomial has two terms ie 12y - 3 squared

hope that helps

i dont think you need to remember them i know we didnt when i did my maths

Default Re: polynomial and binomials

Hiya,

a polynomial is an equation or algebraic expression that has powers of x in...

2xsquared + 6x - 7 is a polynomial expression

4xcubed -7xsquared + 3x - 1 = 0 is a polynomial equation (because it equals something)

How I would describe a binomial depends really on what the application is, but basically it's a polynomial with two terms, so xsquared - 9 is a binomial. It's hard to go much further without getting confusing as I would describe it differently if you were using binomials to solve quadratic equations, or if you were using the binomial theorem for probability...... I'd stick with the simple definition
