I thought it was till i read the posts about the non midwifery placements, i was quite upset that students were not enjoying their placements and felt strongly about my job as a nurse.

As for sticking around i don't know, can't be of much help if i am not training can i really?

You are of use here! you are an excellent mod, you have nursing experience and thus can offer alot to us on an interprofessional level. Please don't take those posts personally. I don't know why historically student midwives do not have a good experience, it doesn't reflect on you or your profession badly, just the fact this element of our course is not perhaps well understood by other areas in healthcare maybe? to argue for nursing maybe sm's have not had the right attitude either?? I guess we'll not know, you know how it is with the different professions not always seeing eye to eye over things at times!
besides these things, you are a great lady, and a welcome member of the team both as a mod, person and poster! so please don't go anywhere you don't have to be training or even wanting to train to be a member here. Though tbh if you don't train maybe you'll regret it? I remember a few months ago reading your posts and thinking how passionate you sounded about wanting to be a midwife, it's a pity you have changed your mind, but I do understad your reasons for doing so! xxxxx

aw missc don't go!! I wouldn't take the posts personally, i guess sometimes people go in to it expecting not to enjoy it and it doesn't help! I'm looking forward to mine, but am a little apprehensive too, but i'm sure it will be fine, it's just out of the comfort zone!!!

Your experience as a nurse is really valuable to the site as it's good to have a different perspective!
I really hope you don't go and carry on, i for one would be grateful for your input when i do my general placement! xxxx

Midwifery's loss is nursing's gain. I wish you all the best and echo what others have said - just because you've made the decision that midwifery isn't for you at the moment doesn't mean you have to leave the community! xxx

Aww MissC, don't go! You really are a much loved member of the community and it is really good to have a nurse's persective on things. Don't get upset because some people don't like their general placement, everybody' different, we are not all going to even like all aspects of midwifery.

Aww, well I hope you continue to enjoy your work as a nurse. Although you shouldn't let people put you off just because they don't enjoy it.

I hope it all works out, whether you decide in the future to train as a midwife or not! You're always welcome here xxx

MissC, take your time there is no real reason to have to decide now. As for the non-midwifery placements not being enjoyed my SM's, the way I see it is that many people could never even think of doing nursing first and have no wish to. I think many understand the need to do the nursing placements but are chomping at the bit to get back to DS or community. I think it takes a special kind of person to be a nurse first then a midwife. Also MissC take a look back at your previous blog where you talk about your dream job. Has it not turned out the way you thought or is midwifery clouding your view??

Either way you are most definetly welcome here you have a wealth of knowledge to give, I know most of the people I go to, to help me are nurses and im sure they will be invakuable when i actually start.

    Big hugs hun xx
