Starting access and other ramblings
Posted 18-Sep-2008 at 20:56 by upsy daisy
Well, I'm now officially a college student, I now have my very gross, grim looking student I.D card. Hubby thinks it's hilarious that I'm a student, albeit a part time one, keeps making "funny" cracks about getting me a pencil case and did I remember to take an apple in to give to teacher grrrrrr....Went to college Weds for our induction, there's probably only around 20 in our group, some of which are going on to do the access course aimed at those that want to go on to social work so their timetable will be slightly different to ours. All in all seems a nice group so far, mixed ages ranging from 20 to late 40's. Most want to do nursing I think, I heard 2 or 3 other people mention that they wanted to do midwifery.
We got our timetables - it's going to be a long hard day every Weds, we start at 9am and finish around 5pm. They've got to jiggle our timetables around a bit though because as it stands at the moment they haven't even allowed for a lunch break
I'm sure it will get sorted though. We were given lots of info, student handbooks, diary and had to sign to say we'd adhere to the college rules re: attendance etc...We start lessons next week. In year 1 we study human physiology, psychology, english, I.T, study skills and sociology. In year 2 we drop I.T and take maths in it's place .....eeek

They kept telling us how hard it will be and how we will be exhausted after our college day (a bit worrying since I will be going straight from college to work until 11.30pm every Weds
)...but IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT!!!The boys were both at nursery Weds morning whilst I was in college and Mum is having them in the afternoons. Eldest already goes to nursery (he's 3) but youngest only just started (he's 17 months), they said he cried a couple of times but was fine otherwise

Mum surprised me by saying she'd bought me a couple of items of stationery for college, she gave me a HUGE bag....loads of stuff, notepads, loads of pens, highlighters, plastic wallets, ring binder, expanding wallets, mini stapler and hole punch, tippex and a whole load of other stuff...don't think I need to get anything else...my Mum is fab

Still loving my job, I've had a good few shifts and was smiling ear from ear when one of the MCA's said it felt like I'd settled in really well (only been in the job since April) and that it was as though I'd worked there for years
Enough rambling anyhoo!!

Thank hun, I did wonder if you or Kel were in last night - there were 2 of us Ward clerks in last night and the other ward clerk prefers PN so I was down to cover DS. It was pretty quiet so I spent most of the night in the filing cupboard!!!!
Will keep you updated, no doubt I will be picking your brains at some point about access!!
