College Lecturers - Grrrrrrrrrrr!
Posted 26-May-2008 at 10:24 by Felicity
After reading (and replying to) samintraining's post about the college she visited being really negative about her aspirations to become a midwife, I feel like I need to rant and rave a little!!!!
I HATE the fact that these complete strangers (teachers) who don't know you and your personality at all, can be so crushing as to suggest you think of following another career path! Don't they realise that often enough people have their whole careers planned out in their head and only start persuing it when they're sure it's what they want?? I think determination and enthusiasm counts for A LOT in all careers and if that's what every student has, the teacher should encourage and help where they can. I not talking about giving false hope - just encouragement and support to try and suceed.
Oh, it makes me sooooooo ANGRY!!!!!

I agree!I had those same attitudes too, as most of us have had at some point! Hopefully things will change, I'd love college lecturers to read the threads regarding their dismissive attitudes. If you go to college, why not print it and take it in?Posted 26-May-2008 at 13:35 by smwife

Yes... I've been there too. It's very annoying and disheartening to hear that the one thing you want to do is probably not going to happen for you! If I had listened to college then I wouldn't be starting in September... As smwife says, most of us have experienced it and it's horrible.

yes i completly agree, as soon as u mention the career path u want they shake their heads start the lecture on how difficult it is to get into then start throwing the fact that we could all become nursesPosted 27-May-2008 at 09:10 by macdonz

I have spent the last year being told how successful applicants were for adult nursing from my access course and each time the phrase 'except for midwifery of course!' was tagged onto the end! GGGRRRRR! It has driven me mad and they've only gone quiet now cos I've had a conditional offer for Cardiff, tho one lecturer said she's going to tell all her midwives to be 'to apply for Cardiff next year' as if cos I'm in it must be easy! Have bitten my tongu so much this year it's nearly off! Sory about the rant didn't know I felt so strongly till I started typing! lol!Posted 27-May-2008 at 21:14 by dodo70
