Thoughts, articles and occasionally explainations "There are no strangers here, just friends you haven't met yet..."Cheesy but true. In the year that SMNET has been up (Happy Birthday to us on the 30th October!) .... Wow. That went quick!....I have made so many new friends, some are now my best friends and all because of this place. Gone are the days when meeting people online before you meet them offline made you a freak.... its just a new way of communicating, making friends, learning from one another, gaining support.... and all usually from the comfort of your own home. As I type I’ve racked up 4,154 posts .... That’s alot of talking! I hope that you enjoy being here as much as I love creating and shaping this place along, of course, with my fabulous team who all work incredibly hard. Its not always a joy being on staff, it can be hard, difficult, annoying, exhausting at times but they stick with me, and you and SMNET because everything we do takes us forward (mind you, we do have a right giggle, Dory is the SMNET comedian btw.... never a dull moment when the one with fins in on!). So to my fabulous staff, thankyou, I truley would be lost without you all x We are working on SMNET version 2 as I type, its looking rather fabulous with a new logo and a similar layout but one that brings you all our great features in one place rather than you having to dig for them.... Robs working away on that so stay tuned (these things take a while)..... version 2 will bring with it a new shop too which will make buying your favourite SMNET goodies even easier. One of my favourite aspects of the site is the glossary, I love learning new terms and researching definitions for you and clever clogs Rob links it to all posts so if you see a word like Battledore Placenta with a dotted line underneath you can click on it and it will take you to the definition.... fab for your learning and development. If anyone wants to join me and write terms for the glossary then just PM me. In all the thousands of people I have met on here and the hundreds I have met offline (after meeting them on here) only one person wasn’t what they seemed - everyone else has been genuine, wonderful and has ended up being one of my good friends - that’s not bad odds if you ask me! So if you are unsure then put your worries to one side and arrange a group meet in your social group or uni group and make those friends! You have so much in common already being midwifery nuts so take a leap and go eat pudding with them! I was having a look around all the social groups last night and you guys are having some real fun in there! I love the 'I knit so I don’t kill people' avatar! We have our very own SMNET Newsletter which is going to be sent to you very soon, if anyone fancies a spot of article writing then do PM karrierbag or rainbowgoddess and get involved! The student mentor scheme is still going brilliantly (thankyou Ollybolly) with hundreds of you now hooked up with a buddy to take the edge off those first few nervy weeks at your Uni. I’m really pleased that it has been a roaring success as it was something very close to my heart. I was lucky, I got Dory as my unofficial mentor all those years ago and it made me think everyone should have their own Dory! I could waffle on forever about the fab features and aspects of the site but what really matters to me is how many of you say you feel at home here. That really does warm the old cockles.... I always wanted it to be a place where you popped on, caught up with friends, asked questions, spilled the worry beans, had a laugh and learnt loads along the way and it seems that one year in it’s worked. With over 32,347 visits and 406,616 page views this past month and 151,187 visits and 2,231,876 page views and 3,136 members in the past 8 months (for more stats see here) Id say this year has taken us to where we wanted to be.... to the pc's, laptops and so into the homes of thousands of student midwives and SM2bs around the world..... So to all of you, thankyou, for making SMNETs first year a happy and successful one. Total Comments 7 Comments
