My first catch!
Posted 05-Jun-2008 at 08:00 by kit4kat
Hi all
Just had to share my amazing experience. Got my first catch yesterday. Been with the woman since the start of my shift and supported her through all her anxieties and fears. They were such a lovely couple and I really felt like I'd built up a relationship with them both. She coped amazingly well although she felt as though she didn't and kept apologising. She finally said she felt as though she needed to push. We had a look and the head was already sitting there waiting to be delivered. Hadn't got anything ready as we weren't expecting it so soon. I was frantically grabbing aprons and gloves. Nightmare, my hands were still slightly wet from washing them and I couldn't get the last one on, the thumb of my glove was where the finger should be etc...,the midwife kept saying 'hurry up,your going to miss it!' Anyway, to cut a long story short,I got there in time and with the midwife's hands over mine the baby was born and delivered onto mum. I was so happy for them and kept trying to control myself and remain calm,I could have quite easily shed some tears but manged to refocus on delivering the placenta.
All in all a truly amazing experience and one that I will never forget. I feel so priveledged to be part of this whole thing and I have finally realised that all this hard work and stress and studying is really worth it after all.
