My Midwifery days
Delivery suite
I haven't had much luck in getting my last witness on my last few shifts, it is proving harder than I thought it would.
The shifts have ranged from either really quiet with very little happening, to manic where there has hardly been time to draw breath.
The last delivery I witnessed ended up as a Shoulder Dystocia, so although no instruments etc were used it doesn't count as normal.
Looked after a lady all shift yesterday, she was 3 cms when I went on shift at 1.30pm, and her progress was very slow. She had reached 9cms by the time I finished last night, but was it was looking like a possibe section due to decelerations on her CTG trace.
Knowing my luck, because I didn't stay until she delivered it will have been a normal delivery.
I have my two days off now, so hopefully on Friday I will be able to get my fifth witness, and can then be hands on. That scares me to death, but is exciting too.
My mentor told me yesterday that when we have a lady who is coping well, or has an epidural she is going to let me do a VE eeek, I am dreading that, I also have to give vit K to the baby at my next witness, it will all be a good learning experience, but I hope I don't make a mess of things, especially the giving the vit K, poor baby.

| | Ohh getting really exciting now. I'm sure you get your last witness and you will be fine doing the VE. You are lovely, kind and a gentle person and I'm sure you put women at ease and this will help. The baby will scream and get over it and you will too!! |
