My Midwifery days
Delivery suite...yesterday

Had a really busy shift today, and hardly had time to stop for more than five minutes at a time.
After I started on shift I went with my mentor to be introduced to a lady we were going to be taking over the care of when the other midwife finished. In the end the baby was delivered by ventouse...a different one than I saw used before, but the name of it escapes me.
Later on I had chance to go in and witness a very quick normal delivery of a lady that another midwife was caring for. After the earlier experience it was lovely to see a normal birth.
Started to care for another lady with my mentor who was in early labour, and I was encouraged by my mentor to carry out obs on this lady and generally care for her.
Inbetween caring for this lady, I got chance to witness another normal delivery by another midwife, I arrived in the room just as the vertex was visible, and the head crowned, and the baby slid out with the next contraction.
It has been a lovely shift for the most part, although I found the beginning difficult for various reasons. I have witnessed more deliveries today than I have for the last few shifts put together which was great.
