Exams looming.

Posted 13-Jun-2008 at 09:18 by midwifemissy
Yesterday was our last day in uni before going back out on placement on Monday. I am back on delivery suite which I am looking forward to in a way, but not in another.

I have no mentor next week, and I am working with three different midwives, two of whom I don't know. I find it really unsettling when you have to explain at the start of each shift what you can and can't do, I know it is good from the point of view of seeing how different midwives work, and you can learn different skills from them, but I just feel I need the continuity of a mentor at the moment as I get used to delivering babies, and gradually start learning how to deliver them on my own.

I need to chase all my mentors up while I am on placement as I need to get all my proficiences signed off, I didn't realise they needed doing now, thought it was at the end we did that, so am really stressing about not getting them done, and not being able to progress to second year. Oh well, will just have to see what happens I guess.

I have my end of year exams soon and am dreading them, I just hope my mind doesn't go blank the minute I sit down in front of that paper like it usually does.

oh missy, your story is so familiar, it could actually be mine!!!
you're right, changing mentors is unsettling, and having to get your proficincies signed off is a constant stress, usually right at the end of the semester when you least need it.
I'm sure you'll figure out a way to get all the paperwork done, as i will, so good luck and chin up- and i wish lots of safe, healthy babies and nice deliveries on you!!! xxxx

Missy sweetheart, I know how you feel, it is really hard. I am in tomorrow and dreading it working with someone new! Big pressure I know, but use quiet time for paperwork as soon as you mentor returns, why are you not with her? is she away? I know it is hard but we really do need our mentors, it really helps with us developing doesn't it?! re exams, am here if you want a revision buddy, anytime.Big hugs to you MM, this course is like riding the Grand National at times, with the jump from year 1 to 2 and then 2 to 3 as Becher's Brook!!!
You can do it hun! I have faith in you

Your do great im sure, dedicate certain days for revising so that way u can have a life outside of exams, but still revise for them. An with regards to placement i know wot u mean, it can be frustrating having loads of different people esp on delivery suite as that is the place i think you need continuity most isn't it?!

Show the midwives you work with how great you are and what you know!
