Lovely catch

Posted 28-Jun-2008 at 09:39 by midwifemissy
I had a lovely catch yesterday morning. It was very relaxed and calm, even though I only had seconds to get my gloves on whilst another midwife held the head back a little to enable me to get the catch right at the start of my shift.

My mentor just stood back and let me help mum deliver her beautiful baby girl, Mum wanted a physiological third stage, so we settled her and baby together and just watched and waited for the placenta to deliver, it was lovely, no rush, no panic nothing.

I checked Mum to see if she had any tears, but she had an intact perineum which was great. After the placenta was delivered and we had cleaned Mum up, we weighed the baby, and I did a top to toe on her and gave her the vit k injection supervised by my mentor, then left Mum, her partner and baby together so they could have some time to get to know each other, and for baby to feed. It was a really great experience that boosted my confidence no end.
