My Midwifery days
Neonatal Placement
I have four days left of this placement, and I have really enjoyed it.
I have been able to feed and care for such tiny babies...some weighing as little as 850 grams. It has been a challenge putting a nappy on such a tiny baby who have wires getting in the way, and tiny legs that keep kicking your hand out of the way lol.
I have had the opportunity to work in the high dependency room, and the nursery, so have looked after babies needing a lot of care, and also those who need slightly less.
Even though this will only be a three week placement, I have learnt so much in that short time, and I really would love to work on there, it is somewhere I feel I could really make a difference.

I'm on NICU next semester, am really looking forward to it, but am worried that it might be upsetting?! don't know, i'm not a crier anyway..hopefully i'll be ok!
Really glad you enjoyed it though...beats P/N huh? Hopefully you may be able to do some time in there when you qualify? I'm sure they have a midwife or two knocking around on ours...It must be a great learning experience too, we only really know how to take care of and assess healthy babies at the moment! xxx

Awww glad you are getting on so well. I'm looking forward to spending time on NICU when I become a STMW as my eldest was Prem and spent some time on NICU!
