Work experience placement

Have been on my work experience placement this week with a community midwife. I feel soooo lucky as this is the second placement I have had, the first being on a postnatal ward in the hospital.
I loved this placement as much as the first if not more. It gave me a great insight of what it would be like to work in the community where I live and it means I won't be so terrified when I am actually going out there for real in September.
I have met some fabulous women and their families and of course their gorgeous babies. I have also seen lots of variety, from a newly pregnant lady on booking who is still suffering from postnatal depression, to people who could not speak a word of English. I have been able to have a go at palpating womens abdomens and had a go with the sonic aid ... the poor woman who I first had a go on must have thought I was mad when I got really excited at finding the babies heartbeat!!!.
I have seen some problems that can happen with newborns and the tests the are done during and after pregnancy for mum and baby and have picked up a little Urdu!!! (... and a few midwifery terms of course)
I really think that this has been such a valuble experience, if nothing else it has really consolidated my desire to be a midwife and has really eased my nerves about starting my degree in September.
Only problem is that I really don't want to go back to my 'proper' job on Sunday... my heart is just not there anymore... ROLL ON SEPTEMBER!!!
