Feeling positive
Posted 21-Apr-2008 at 18:17 by RachaelP
I emailed Marian McIvor this afternoon to ask for the feedback letter as she explained at the interview day that they only send a standard letter with the relevant boxes ticked and cannot give personal feedback, I also asked her if they accept transfer requests for subsequent years if places they have some students drop out.
This is her reply:

Thank you for your email. Pleased to see you are taking up your place at Cardiff. You can write to me at a future date to request a transfer to Swansea however, this can only be accomodated if we have a vacancy. You interviewed very well but unfortunately you were not selected in the final numbers. I therefore feel I really don't have other advice to include in a letter. I hope this is OK. Good luck with your midwifery studies.
So, I didn't do anything wrong, I was just unlucky. This makes me feel a lot better. Also, it is nice to know there may be a possibility of a transfer however I'm not so sure I'll want one. After all, I'll have got to know and, hopefully, bonded with my cohort at Cardiff and I'm not so sure I'd then like to start again with a new cohort. Also, there's going to be some differences in teaching programmes so I might end up missing out on something vital if I don't have that continuity of sticking to one course.
Anyway, it's nice to have options and to know that I didn't go all that wrong with Swansea. I'm lucky to have had 3 out of 3 interviews and to have got in the first year of applying, especially as I had not discovered SM.Net then to get the fabulaous advice I've subsequently read and wished I'd had before interview. So I did it all on my lonesome
.
I'm very pleased with my achievement and cannot wait for September, then the challenge begins. Bring it on, I'm ready!
